L’H-1 Racer era un velivolo rivoluzionario per il suo tempo: monoplano ad ala bassa con carrello retrattile, struttura interamente metallica con rivestimento in alluminio e speciali rivetti a filo. Un modello in scala dell’H-1 fu testato nella galleria del vento del California Institute of Technology, rivelando il potenziale di superare i 350 mph, una missione compiuta nel 1935 con lo stesso Howard Hughes nella cabina di pilotaggio.

The H-1 Racer was a revolutionary aircraft for its time: low-wing monoplane with retractable carriage, full metal airframe with an aluminium cladding and special plain head rivets. A scale model of the H-1 was tested in the wind tunnel of the California Institute of Technology, revealing the potential to exceed 350 mph, a mission accomplished in 1935 with Howard Hughes himself in the cockpit.
