R.A.V. REPARTO ALTA VELOCITA’

Il R.A.V. Reparto Alta Velocità fu creato nel 1928 per addestrare i migliori piloti della Regia Aeronautica al pilotaggio dei velocissimi idrocorsa italiani, espressamente progettati per partecipare alla Coppa Schneider, una competizione internazionale di velocità per idrovolanti che si svolse dal 1913 al 1931.
L’epopea del RAV visse il suo momento più alto, ed il suo canto del cigno, con la conquista italiana nell’ottobre del 1934 del record del mondo di velocità, ben 709,209 Km/h, per la categoria idrovolanti con motori a pistoni, un primato tutt’ora imbattuto.

The R.A.V. was created in 1928 to train the best pilots of the Regia Aeronautica to fly the fast Italian hydroracers specially designed to participate in the Schneider Cup, an international seaplane speed competition that took place from 1913 to 1931.
The epic of the RAV lived its highest moment, and its swan song, with the Italian conquest in October 1934 of the world speed record, as many as 709,209 Km/h, for the piston engine powered seaplanes type, a record still unbeaten.
